CENTER POLICIES
Our program goal is to provide a loving, learning environment where the intellectual, social, and developmental potential of each child can be realized in a positive, stimulating, and creative manner.
The End of the Rainbow day care center provides a safe and attractive learning environment where children can feel comfortable playing, resting, eating, and learning.
Communication between the day care and the parent is essential for quality care. If you ever have a problem or a constructive criticism, please feel free to contact a teacher and/or the Center Director. It is important that all parents understand and abide by the Center Policies.
1. To start our day off without conflict, PLEASE, refrain from bringing any food or drink into the center, unless you bring enough for ALL of the children. CANDY and GUM are never allowed. A healthy breakfast is served between 8:00 a.m. (for kindergarten children) and 8:30 a.m. for all other children). If your child arrives after 8:15 a.m., we will assume that he/she has already eaten.
2.CALL THE CENTER if your child will be absent or arriving late, please, notify the center by 9:00 a.m. This helps to give us an accurate account of how many children will be eating here.
3. TEN HOURS DAILY: Parents are encouraged to pick up their child as soon as reasonably possible. Pennsylvania state law requires that no child shall be left in a day care center for more than ten (10) hours a day. It is your responsibility to notify the center with any changes in your drop off or pick up times.
4. UPDATE ANY CHANGES: It is a Pennsylvania state law that we have two phone numbers that will be kept on file, to contact a responsible adults who will care for your child in case of an emergency. If these adults change, please notify the center immediately.
5. Notify the center immediately if there is a change of address, phone, employment, or insurance, as soon as possible.
6. If your child has needs for a restricted diet, a doctor’s note stating any and all restrictions must be provided. It is the parent’s responsibility to provide any “special” dietary needs for the child.
7. Please do not send a sick child to the center. Keep your child home if he/she has a fever of 100 degrees or more, diarrhea, vomiting, or an unidentified rash. We reserve the right to deny care of a child who is ill upon arrival. There are Health Policies enclosed in your information packet.
8. BRINGING ITEMS FROM HOME: Please do not allow your child to bring food, toys, coins, or candy to the day care center. Everything that your child needs for the day is supplied. The center will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items. This does not apply to show and tell items.
9. SMOKING is not permitted in the day care center or on the playgrounds.
10. PROPERTY DAMAGE: If a child purposely and repeatedly damages day care property, the parent will be responsible for the replacement or repair of the item.
11. REST TIME will be provided for all children less than six (6) years of age who are in care more than four (4) hours.
12. Toddlers and preschool children will be provided with a cot. Each child will use the same cot, and blanket. Bedding will be laundered every two weeks by the parent. Soiled bedding shall be cleaned before it is reused.
13. Please DO NOT send large blankets or pillows. Our cots are 52” by 20”, a blanket the size of a baby blanket is perfect.
14. MENUS: Monthly menus will be posted on the room bulletin boards. Each child will be encouraged to try all foods. The children are not forced to eat anything, our rule is to take two bites of each item that is served. Food is not used as punishment or reward.
15. SNACKS: The children take turns sharing snack items. When your child’s name appears in the snack box on the menu, please proved a snack item for thirty-six (36) school-agers, thirty (30) children in preschool, eighteen (18) children in older toddler, fifteen (15) children in young toddler, and eight (8) older infants. There is a list in your information packet of suggested snacks.
16. ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURES: Please walk your child(ren) into the day care center. Do not allow them to run out to your car while you are still in the building. Our safety rule is “No one goes outside without a parent or teacher with them.” There are other cars that may be coming or going in the parking lot and a serious accident could occur. Also, please be sure to use age appropriate car seats or seat belts to transport your child.
17. RELEASE: Your child will only be released to persons other than the parent or legal guardian if their name appears on your signed consent form. Picture identification is required of those authorized who are unfamiliar to the teaching staff. Custodial parents must be sure the day care has copies of court orders, if non-custodial parent is not allowed to pick up the child. In case of an emergency, a phone call to notify the center of who will be picking up the child is sufficient.
18. Please be in control of your child during drop off and pick up times. This is a time of testing when two different authority figures are present (parent and teacher) and this situation will be tested at one time or another to see if the rules still apply. Children of all ages adjust to transitions from one activity to another differently.
19. Any person picking up your child in an impaired condition (alcohol or drugs) will be encouraged to allow the day care to find alternate transportation. We cannot legally withhold a child from a legal guardian, but if we feel the child is in jeopardy, we will NOT hesitate to contact the local law enforcement.
20. SIGNING IN AND OUT: You are required to sign your initials, time of drop off, and your estimated time of arrival to pick your child up at the end of the day. When you come to pick your child up at the end of the day, write the time and your initials. The sign in/out book is located in each classroom. Children are not permitted to sign themselves in or out.
21. REPORTING CHILD ABUSE: Pennsylvania State Law requires that child care facilities are mandated to report immediately to the police or Child Protective Services any reason to SUSPECT child abuse, neglect, or exploitation. We are not obligated to inform parents/guardians of this report.
22. All children must wear a jacket/coat when the temperature is 45 degrees or below.
23. End of the Rainbow Child Care Center will transfer children’s files at the request of the family, when the child transitions to another educational setting.
