Health and Safety Policies
1. PHYSICALS: Each child is required by the state of Pennsylvania to have a current physical before entering the day care. Physicals are required at the ages of 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, and yearly thereafter.
2. HEALTH SCREENINGS: Children will be visually screened as they arrive at the day care and throughout the day. If a child exhibits signs of illness, it will be determined if the symptoms indicate the need for exclusion until remedied. In the event a child becomes ill and needs to be picked up, the child will be separated from the rest of the children until a parent or guardian arrives.
Teachers will observe and document:
· Changes in behavior or appearance
· Any skin rashes and itchy skin or scalp
· Signs of fever such as flushed appearance or shivering
· Complaints of pain or nor feeling well
· Vomiting, diarrhea, and drainage from the eye (s)
· When a child or family member has been exposed to a harmful communicable disease.
3. NON-ADMITTANCE: Your child will not be allowed to attend End of the Rainbow Day Care if he/she exhibits symptoms for exclusion within a 24 hour period prior, or they have not taken three (3) doses of a prescription medication. If your child is unable to participate in the normal activities of the daily schedule, then your child must stay home.
4. SYMPTOMS FOR EXCLUSION:
· Fever of 101 degrees F or higher
· Diarrhea (two (2) or more watery stools within 24 hours).
· Vomiting on two (2) or more occasions during the past 24 hours
· A draining rash
· Eye discharge
· Lice or nits
· Too tired or ill to participate in normal activities
5. NOTIFYING PARENTS: Parents will be notified immediately when a child becomes ill. If parents cannot be located, emergency contact persons will be called.
6. RETURNING TO DAY CARE: A child returning to the day care after a communicable disease (impetigo, etc.), must have a note from a physician, or be on a prescription medication for 24 hours.
EMERGENCY NUMBERS: An updated emergency record will be on file for each child. Two (2) emergency numbers of contact persons will be requested. Any change of address, phone,
